The WPI for the week ended 19th June, 2010 in respect of 'Primary Articles' and 'Fuel. Power, Light & Lubricants' is given below:
PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 22.02%)
The index for this major group rose by 0.2 percent to 301.8 (Provisional) from 301.3 (Provisional) for the previous week.
The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 14.75 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 19/06/2010 (over 20/06/2009) as compared to 17.60 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 12/06/2010) and 7.57 percent during the corresponding week (ended 20/06/2009) of the previous year.
The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the week are as follows:-
The index for 'Food Articles' group rose by 0.3 percent to 296.3 (Provisional) from 295.3 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of fruits & vegetables (2%) and maize and urad (1% each). However, the prices of bajra (6%), coffee (3%) and moong and gram (1% each) declined.
The index for 'Non-Food Articles' group declined by 0.1 percent to 286.3 (Provisional) from 286.7 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of sunflower (3%) and raw cotton and linseed (1% each). However, the prices of raw rubber, raw silk and castor seed (1% each) moved up.
FUEL, POWER, LIGHT & LUBRICANTS (Weight 14.23%)
The index for this major group remained unchanged at its previous week's level of 370.2 (Provisional). The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis stood at 12.90 percent (Provisional) for the week (ended 19/06/2010 over 20/06/2009) as compared to 13.18 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 12/06/2010) and (-) 12.42 percent during the corresponding week (ended 20/06/2009) of the previous year.

India's Foreign Trade Data : May, 2010

India's exports during May, 2010 were valued at US $ 16145 million (Rs. 73964 crore) which was 35.1 per cent higher in dollar terms (27.5 per cent higher in Rupee terms) than the level of US $ 11952 million (Rs.58005 crore) during May, 2009. Cumulative value of exports for the period April-May 2010 was US $ 33032 million (Rs 149111 crore) as against US $ 24349 million (Rs. 120069 crore) registering a growth of 35.7 per cent in Dollar terms and 24.2 per cent in Rupee terms over the same period last year.
India's imports during May, 2010 were valued at US $ 27437 million (Rs.125694 crore) representing a growth of 38.5 per cent in dollar terms (30.8 per cent in Rupee terms) over the level of imports valued at US $ 19806 million ( Rs. 96125 crore) in May, 2009. Cumulative value of imports for the period April-May, 2010 was US $ 54745 million (Rs. 247211 crore) as against US $ 38858 million (Rs. 191502 crore) registering a growth of 40.9 per cent in Dollar terms and 29.1 per cent in Rupee terms over the same period last year.
Oil imports during May, 2010 were valued at US $ 8844 million which was 66.7 per cent higher than oil imports valued at US $ 5306 million in the corresponding period last year. Oil imports during April-May, 2010 were valued at US$ 16923 million which was 68.5 per cent higher than the oil imports of US $ 10045 million in the corresponding period last year.
Non-oil imports during May, 2010 were estimated at US $ 18593 million which was 32.3 per cent higher than non-oil imports of US $ 14057 million in May, 2009. Non-oil imports during April - May, 2010 were valued at US$ 37822 million which was 31.2 per cent higher than the level of such imports valued at US$ 28821million in April - May, 2009.
The trade deficit for April - May, 2010 was estimated at US $ 21712 million which was higher than the deficit of US $ 14509 million during April -May, 2009.

Schedule for bye-Elections to fill Casual Vacancies from 28 - Vemulawada and 29 - Sircilla in the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh
New Delhi: July 1, 2010
The Election Commission vide its Press Note No. ECI/PN/23/2010 dated 21.06.2010 announced bye-elections to fill up 10 clear vacancies out of 12 casual vacancies in the State Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh from 1-Sirpur, 2-Chennur(SC), 04-Mancherial, 15-Yellareddy, 17-Nizamabad(Urban), 20-Koratla, 22-Dharmapuri(SC), 31-Huzurabad,33- Siddipet and 105- Warangal West. Since in two Assembly Constituencies viz. 28- Vemulawada and 29 – Sircilla, election petitions were pending wherein the petitioners had sought to be declared elected, the elections were not announced in these constituencies along with aforesaid 10 clear vacancies.
Now, the Honb'le High Court of Judicature, Andhra Pradesh vide its order in Writ Petition no. 14443 of 2010 dated 30.06.2010 has held that the bye-elections for filling the vacancies for 28- Vemulawada assembly constituency and 29 – Sircilla assembly constituency should be held along with the bye-elections already notified for other 10 assembly constituencies, not withstanding the pendency of above mentioned 2 Election petitions.
Now therefore, the Commission has decided to hold bye-elections to fill up the said 2 vacancies for 28- Vemulawada assembly constituency and 29 – Sircilla assembly constituency also, along with the 10 clear vacancies already announced, as per programme indicated below: -

ELECTORAL ROLL

ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINES (EVMs)
The Commission has decided to use EVMs in these bye-elections in all the polling stations. Adequate numbers of EVMs have been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the poll is conducted smoothly with the help of these machines.
IDENTITIFICATION OF VOTERS
In consonance with the past practice, the Commission has decided that the voter's identification shall be mandatory in the aforementioned bye-elections at the time of poll. In order to ensure that no voter is deprived of his/her franchise, if his/her name figures in the Electoral Rolls, separate instructions will be issued to allow additional documents for identification of voters at the time of poll in this bye-elections.
MODEL CODE OF CONDUCT
The Model Code of Conduct shall come into force with immediate effect in the district (s) in which the whole or any part of the Assembly Constituency going for bye-election is (are) included. The Model Code of Conduct shall be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the State Government. The Model Code of Conduct shall also be applicable to the Union Government as far as this State is concerned.

SoO Agreement with NDFB and DHD Extended till 31.12.2010

It has been decided and mutually agreed to extend the Suspension of Operation (SoO) Agreement with National Democratic Front of Baroland (NDFB) (Pro-Talk faction) for a further period of six months up to 31.12.2010. Tripartite talks on the demands of NDFB(Pro-Talk faction) are continuing.
It has also been decided and mutually agreed to extend the Suspension of Operation (SoO) Agreement with Dima Halam Daogah (Nunisa) (DHD/N) Group for a further period of six months up to 31.12.2010. Tripartite talks on the demands of DHD(MN) are continuing.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Shri Navin Kumar, IAS(BH:75), presently Principal Advisor, Planning Commission as Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development vice Shri Ramachandran, IAS(UK:72), on his retirement on June 30, 2010.
ACC has also approved the appointment of Shri Jayant Prasad, IFS (76) as Special Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.

National Archives of India to Organise Exhibition-1857
New Delhi: July 1, 2010
The National Archives of India is organizing an exhibition entitled 1857, based on public records, and private papers available among the record holdings. The attempt is to focus on key areas which sparked off the Uprising till it was suppressed in 1858.
To facilitate the comprehension of the events, the exhibits have been divided into four separate segments, each linked to the other and carrying a specific theme. The first Section entitled Spark attempts to highlight the discontent among soldiers as well as residents of Hindustan against the Company's rule in India. Section II entitled Fire focuses on the beginning of the Uprising including reaction of the British authorities through Telegrams and letters exchanged among the Officers of the East India Company on the mutinous developments. The Third Section titled Blaze contains documents highlighting the measures taken by the British to quell the Mutineers through various means including offer of rewards leading to the arrest of Mutineers, capture of the Fort of Jhansi ,Court Martial of 85 troopers of the Bengal Light Cavalry etc. The final Segment entitled Luminaries focuses on the heroes of the Uprising viz, Rani Lakshmi Bai ,Nana Saheb ,Kunwar Singh, etc.
The thematic Collection of archival records and photographs related to the developments of the Revolt are aimed at helping the researchers and students to understand in a better way, how the Revolt affected the lives of the people away from the epicenter of the rebellion in the North India to the length and breadth of the country. It is hoped that historical researchers would seek new domains and enrich their understanding of the phenomenon of the Sub continent.
The Exhibition will be inaugurated by Shri Jawhar Sircar, Secretary Culture,Government of India at the India International Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi on 2 July 2010 and will remain open for public viewing till 8th July 2010.

Mineral Production During April 2010

The mineral production from mining and quarrying sector in April 2010 was lower by 15.95% compared to that of the preceding month. However the mineral sector has shown a positive growth of 11.41% during April 2010 as compared to that of the corresponding month of previous year.
The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during April 2010 was Rs. 10607 crore. The contribution of coal was the highest at Rs. 3551 crore (33%). Next in the order of importance were: iron ore Rs. 2699 crore, petroleum (crude) Rs. 1599 crore, natural gas (utilized) Rs. 1399 crore, lignite Rs. 390 crore and limestone Rs. 272 crore. These six minerals together contributed about 93% of the total value of mineral production in April 2010.
Production level of important minerals in April 2010 were: coal 387 lakh tonnes, lignite 35 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilized) 4457 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 29 lakh tonnes, bauxite 1185 thousand tonnes, chromite 333 thousand tonnes, copper conc. 13 thousand tonnes, gold 218 kg., iron ore 224 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 11 thousand tonnes, manganese ore 254 thousand tonnes, zinc conc. 96 thousand tonnes, apatite & phosphorite 135 thousand tonnes, dolomite 354 thousand tonnes, limestone 205 lakh tones, magnesite 26 thousand tones and diamond 2711 carats.
In April 2010, the output of chromite increased by 9.99%, manganese ore 3.97%, lignite 3.56%, iron ore 2.5percent. However the production of copper conc. Decreased by 0.02%, gold 0.91%, limestone 2.67%, petroleum (crude) 2.94%, dolomite 4.45%, natural gas (utilized) 5.47%, magnesite 8.13%, lead conc. 13.03%, bauxite 13.18%, zinc conc. 13.39%, apatite & phosphorite 17.67%, diamond 19.39% and coal 36.67 percent.
