Tea Party Victories Propel Republican Gains in Senate 03 Nov 2010 The Tea Party captured its first big victories Tuesday when Marco Rubio won a United States Senate seat in Florida and Rand Paul won his Senate bid in Kentucky. Marco Rubio defeats Gov. Charlie Crist in Florida Senate race 02 Nov 2010 Marco Rubio, a "tea party" movement favorite, was elected to the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, easily winning a three-way race that included Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, a one-time rising star in the Republican Party. The victory means a conservative will take over the Senate seat now held by a more moderate Republican. The Senate's division between the major parties won't change, but the GOP will continue its move to the right. Democrat Kendrick Meek, who ran third, waged what has been a traditional Democratic campaign in this midterm cycle...

"We've come to take our government back," Paul said. "Eleven percent of Americans approve of what the government has done. Tonight the Tea Party tidal wave is sending a message."

Chris Dodd. By late September, McMahon had closed the race to within 5 points, but wasn't able to get closer, despite spending some $42 million on the campaign, to Blumenthal's $6 million, according to the Center for Reponsive Politics. One reason McMahon won the GOP nomination was her ability and willingness to spend her own considerable money--she's the former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment--to try to beat Blumenthal.

Michael Rectenwald: 'Only a working-class majority can overcome power elite and end wars' 03 Nov 2010 Michael Rectenwald, Ph.D., CLG founder and chief editorialist said, 'I predicted that Obama would destroy the Democratic Party almost a year ago. I argued that Obama has brought ruin to the party by more than grossly under-delivering on lofty promises. Tonight's outcome will bear that out.'

The Obama Effect: The Demise of the Democratic Party and a Gift to the Country By Michael Rectenwald, Ph.D. 11 Dec 2009 The decision to escalate Afghanistan War should put the final nail in the coffin of "change" and "hope" that Democrats and others crawled into when they supported Obama. The evidence that Obama is every bit the representative of the corporate oligarchy and no less a corporate shill than the rest has been mounting for nearly a year-or well before the election for the cognoscenti. Only fanatics could have heard Obama's speech on Afghanistan and failed to hear the resonances of Bush. But the writing was on the wall over a year ago when Obama supported the bailouts of the banks and brokerage firms that leveraged their destruction of the economy on the foreclosures of homes. Few could miss the fact that the health care reform bill, should it ever pass, will be another unwarranted and gratuitous bailout-this one of the insurance and pharmaceutical companies... Only a working-class majority can overcome the power elite and end the wars.
