SYMPOSIUM BY CENTRAL WATER RESOURCES BOARD

Kolkata, July 28, 2010

 

The Central Water Resources Board, Ministry of Water Resources,  Government of India organized a symposium on the role of rural women in proper reservation of water resources at Haringhata I panchayat office in Nadia district yesterday. Haringhata-I panchayat is a 'Nirmal Gram' prize winner. The symposium is part of the Central Water Resources Ministry's 'Information, Education and Communication' programme. In all 83 ladies participated in the symposium. The symposium was presided over by Smt. Karuna Mondal, Pradhan, Haringhata-I panchayat, who in her speech particularly referred to the need of rainwater harvesting in Nadia district.

 

Smt. Shipra Bandopadhyay, Scientist, on behalf of the Central Water Resources Board elucidated on the condition of ground water in Nadia district, its spread, process of digging deep tube wells for pollution free drinking water, rating of ground water in Nadia district by the Central Ground Water Board and all research and developmental activities of the Central Ground Water Board and their success.

 

Smt. Manasi Bhattacharya, Scientist in her speech dealt on the quality of ground water in Nadia district, presence of various organic-inorganic materials in them and their bad effect on human body. She also underlined in her speech different process of making drinking water arsenic free.

 

Participants put up various questions on the problems they face in their day-to day life while working with ground water and the scientists present there tried to answer all their queries. Books translated in Bengali on Rainwater Harvesting, Solution of arsenic contamination in drinking water in West Bengal and Condition of groundwater in Nadia district were also distributed in the symposium.
